s60 remap clarification

Okay, as some of you know looking at getting my 01 s60 2.0 remapped.

I've been contacting a lot of remappers and they ALL seem to have different answers regarding the process of a remap on my car. So looking for a bit of clarification from you guys as what the process actually is, below says what three different tuners are saying.

Im guesing the top quote personally as they have done a lot of remaps on volvos? Could someone also verify what ecu i have?

Quote

You need to remove the ECU and you need to bootpin the ECU using a program called ByteShooter, it is impossible to do it without taking the ECU out, it is the same with every Volvo, they require the ECU to be taken out, the only way you can tune these without the ECU being removed is using a tune it box to fit to the fuel rail and we do not offer these as they are a very poor way of tuning vehicles and it tricks the car into producing more fuel.

Quote

The process involves me using handheld device that plugs in your diagnostic port and copies all of the data and standard map, I then transfer this data to a laptop, upload the file to our server which Andy in the office will modify. I then transfer the modified file back to the handheld device and back on to the car.

Quote

Yeah ecu out and soldering chip.... Seems that volvo have a handful that can be done via OBD port but they are few and far between

T4 closed loop WOT until 4500rpm.

I thought my fuel system was playing up as my car was 14.5:1 even at WOT. But today I decided to floor it anyway and watch the AFRs. So in 4th at 3000rpm I floored it. It stayed stoich until just over 4500 then it suddenly richened up to 12:1!! Spoke to Tcode from another forum and he said the 2000MY onwards had this built into ecu from factory for good fuel consumption and emissions. This is why he went standalone as he was scared that stoich was too lean at those revs WOT. Surely Volvo wouldn't have mapped it this way if it was dangerous? Answers on a postcard.

Thanks, Mitch.

S60R latest map

I recieved a new revised map off Marco for the poor attempt at mapping at Bruntingthorpe.

What does it take to get what you ask for off him. He has managed to up the bhp but at the same time he has reduced my tourqe.

My Bruntingthorpe map was 346.3 bhp and 456 nm (336.6 lb/ft) now I have 366.3 bhp but only 430 nm (317.2 lb/ft) Although I have more bhp it seems to me the accelleration isn't as good.

I have a printout of my new map overlaid on Pyaap's map. Although the end results are very close, (the build up to the end result) I am down on power & tourqe thoughout the rev range.

My engie is the same as Pyaap's except for forged rods and a ported head. The rods won't make any gains except that I should be able to bring the power on earlier without fear of bending anything. The ported head should make more power otherwise people won't bother to do this mod.

How hard is it to map a P2 car. it took 7 months to get this map, I am starting to feel embarrased phoning Don

Any comments?

Well, I did till I got 100 yards up the road from the garage. Then the light came back on plus the traction control light. The guy at the the garage said the ecu's were different so I guess it is the reason why it no work. So, £40 plus price of ECU to gain one extra light on the dash....boooo!!!

Volvo Sweden (incl Polestar) and Factory Visit 2012

Right folks, one of the most common point of feedback I've been getting over the last couple of years has been that many would like the event to be more than just a 2 day event. Having a consecutive 2 day track event would be hard on both cars and drivers so following discussions with Volvo UK, we are proposing to have, in the run up to the track day (i.e in the same week), a visit to Gothenburg, to the Volvo Factory delivery centre, a conducted tour of the Volvo factory line itself (a.k.a The Blue Train), the Volvo Museum, and also a visit to, and activities hosted by Polestar at their HQ and the hopefully also the official Volvo test track.

We are tentatively looking at the events in Sweden being run from Tues-Thurs (3-5th July 2012), and then of course the usual Thurs evening -Sat events will be run at Bristol and Combe. I've been looking and flights to Sweden around that time are around £150 return with a regular carrier like SAS from H'row (probably cheaper with a budget carrier but I've not had a chance to look) and accommodation in Gothenburg will be at the Radisson Blu Gothenburg, with preferential rates for official visitors to Volvo.

At this moment, what I need to know is a rough idea of who would be interested in such a trip (plus whether you're bringing family members), so that I can provide a rough idea of numbers to Volvo UK in due course as it will be them who are officially organising the visit. All of this is very much in its infancy so things may be subject to change as plans progress but I will keep everyone updated as I go along and hopefully bring it to fruition!
