  1. Hoping to try and get some advice. travelling at 40mph and the engine just died. 1998 V70R, electrics worked fine but engine wont fire. Had to get towed back by a Ford... sad times. Anyway, pulled a plug and no spark, the spark plugs are new Volvo, recently done the Dist cap and rotor arm, ht leads are a 2 years old at most. So striped the coil off and got a meter on it to get about 0.9 ohms which i think seems to be good??? Pulled the plugs on the Crank Sensor and getting just over 2.5 ohms, so is that good? Pulled the cam sensor and im getting all sorts of readings all under 1 ohm. Some terminals dont give any signal so what is the norm. I have done a video but cant upload it. I have gone to the facebook forums for help but im getting myself lost with all the directions from timing to bell housing earth connections. I am only an intermediate diyer. Any help is much appreciated Paul.

  3. I was hoping to see if anyone might now where I might be able to get a set of brackets to upgrade to 320 discs and Volvo v40 / Ford st calipers? I see that DVS in the states do them but they seem very expensive also factoring in delivery. With that in mind I was keen to see if I can get some locally? can anyone also confirm that this upgrade will be ok with 17inch comets? Any help is much appreciated. Paul.
  4. Whilst browsing the ads over festive break (as any petrol head does) , I noticed that 90% of all S60R and V70R models listed (and likely to be listed) are by a company called Locate A Car Ltd (ebay name : locateacaruk) with the following address; Locate A Car Limited Viewing By Appointment Only Lichfield Staffordshire WS14 9QX A couple of the adverts are listed below; 2003 Volvo S60R £5950 2004 S60R £7950 2003 Volvo S60R £6450 Does anyone have any dealings with this lot or know if its anything linked to that Dana Miah fella in some way?
  5. Hi All, Tried to find a pretty clean, low mileage 850T5R a few years back as wanted to take myself back to the days of BTCC when Racing Volvo estate's rocked my known world. Surprisingly, I failed...so did the next best thing and bought a low mileage (83,000miles) 1998 Saffron Pearl V70R AWD from a guy down in Luton for £3,450. This meant flying all the way down to Luton, from Aberdeen, with my 8yr old son, at the time, to go see it, and of course, buy it. As we arrived late at night, there was no real test drive. Paperwork, cash handover, then Premier Inn, before heading back up the road...No probs...for the 1st year that is. Then it started. It was one thing after another. Change this, change that, then the biggie . . . White smoke!!! New cylinder head gasket here we go. So...Engine out, down to Glasgow, re-furb, back again, into car. All that pallava took 1 year. Then there was the turbo re-furb etc. etc. etc. Now if I was a sane individual, which I'm afraid I'm not, I should've called up the knackers yard and had them come tow her away as soon as I heard how much it was going to cost to fix. I tried to find a replacement engine, but afraid, rare as rocking horse sh1t. The engine gig alone cost £2,000, never mind turbo's and heater matrix's and all. Anywhoose, finally got her back on the road April this year, only to find she was smoking just as much as before, except this time, the colour isn't white :0 ( So this is where we are...Mate who own Caledonia Autotech in Turriff has just called to tell me the bad news. Engine re-build. Re-bore, New pistons etc. etc. The price? Well thinking not much change out of £2,000, if not more. So what to do? I love the car (Reason why I still have her, and why I've spent so much cash) so trying to keep her as original as possible. Having hemorrhaged sooo much cash so far, which of the following is the best option : Go for a proper re-furb and get her lighting up the tarmac again, whilst having to re-mortgage my house (Keeping it quiet from her indoors) to do so. Try to find a replacement engine...Do u guys know what to replace it with, where to find it, so keeping the Beast as original as possible. Sell it as is (Car is in pretty good nick for its age, and reason why I didn't want to scrap it in the 1st place. Or lastly... Send it to Volvo Scrap Heaven!!?! So gentlemen, your thoughts and expert advice if you'd be so kind. All Help and Assistance with the above would be very much appreciated. Doogie Broon p.s. I don't really have room outside the house for her anywhoose (So), Got laid off from my Oil & Gas job last December (Again . . . So), and the wife thinks she looks like a hearse . . . But hey, V70 R Saffy01.bmpV70 R Saffy01.bmp what does she know!!?!
  6. I dont know if anyone can offer any advice on this as im spending lots of money and chasing my tail. 1998 V70R AWD 117k engine which ive had rebuilt with stronger rods, hybrid 18t turbo, bigger intercooler, s60r manifold, custom 3 inch downpipe, 3 inch exhaust all the way through with a fast flow cat. Green injectors and Tim helped me out and did the mapping for me, he didnt do the rebuild as I didnt know of him when I started the project.. There is more work ive had done but I would need to dig out paperwork. So thats the insight to the engine The issue im leaking oil from the oil cap and back cap as you can see from the image. So what I have done: The garage replaced all the PCV as it was smoking from dipstick etc and oil under the top cover etc so I thought this was the fix..... Sadly not the case. So next step was to replace the oil cap seal.... no joy Next step was to try and tighten the spring that holds the cap in place.... the issue got worse. Replaced the oil cap with genuine Volvo one and the issue seemed to stop for a while and a month on its leaking again. My plan was to try and put two seals on the cap but I cant get it back on so thats a no go. Ive also noticed that after the engine has been run and then you start it again shortly afterwards you get a puff of blue / white smoke then you rev it and again you get another puff and it clears. As mentioned this is a rebuilt engine, new turbo etc Oil wise im losing about half the dipstick in about 500 miles because of the oil cap as I lost no oil when the new cap went on and it didnt leak for that short period Any suggestions would be great Paul.

  8. Hello, I happily strolled out to my 1998 p1 V70r the other day ready for work to find my drivers footwell with a good 2 inches of water in it! It had been raining hard so my initial thoughts were the sunroof drains.. Anyways I sponged the water from the foot well and ive since been driving round with the heater on and the windows down to get rid of the wet dog smell. I removed the a pillar cover thinking I would find a pipe and a connector, as per the various youtube videos I have watched mainly on the newer models as there was nothing on the p1. However I didnt find the pipe or the connector. So I pushed down into the drain a soft wire and then poured water into the sunroof tray and it seems to drain fine. Anyways thinking it was fixed I was happy. This morning after a good rain storm I have come out to a spongy carpet with water underneath, so a squelchy sound.... glad it was not the pond I had before but now thinking where are you coming from??? Can anyone offer any advice on where the drain pipe is as I couldnt find it in the a pillar? also is that the problem? Door seals seem find, drains under the bonnet all seem clear... Im thinking that I managed to reduce the water by tinkering the the sunroof drains so is it still that... Any help would be much appreciated. Paul.
  9. I am after some technical advice... I am in need of replacing my standard rear pads on 1998 v70r, im changing them to Ferodo but I am having difficulties matching the pads.. Im in contact with Circuit Supplies who are a main supplier and they have ben in contact with Ferodo techical, the pads they have are very close but springs are slightly different etc. Ive have been given FDB676 as being the closest that they have. Can anyone advise what will fit or if these are the ones? Ive given the original parts number 272291, now 31261186 Thank you in advance Paul.

  11. For sale is my beloved Volvo V70 R FWD Manual 7 seater in Saffron. 187003 miles with lot of receipts and history New discs and pads on the back , new cv boots , new front bottom arms, new battery ,new wipers and will have a fresh 12 months mot on by next week. Has forge dump valve ,forge silicone pipes with huge filter piped into the bumper , hardpipe install intercooler kit. Bodywork is in great condition, has a tiny dint in the n/s/r door and a scrape on the front n/s bumper and rear o/s bumper and a mark on the bonnet. The usual wear and tear on the front end form stone chips but nothing major. The interior is in fantastic condition and has the diamond stitching on the half leather electric heated seats. I installed the Volvo 7 seat conversion In the boot which is ideal for smaller children. It has 18" alloys on with low profile tyres on that still have a decent bit of tread left on them. Only bad bits is the abs and traction control don't work but this is my 3 red Volvo that didn't have that working. It's usually the abs sensor on the wheel. Also not sure about the cruise control will have to check. This is a quick car, standard power is 250 bhp 350 nm on these cars and with the mods its poss pushing 260+ The last owner claimed it had a Ricca 310 bhp ecu fitted but I have no proof of this and I have had a 310 bhp T5 and it felt quicker than this although that had an electronic boost controller fitted. Anyway this is a well looked after classic car that is getting harder to find. I am located in Denton m34 postcode Manchester viewing is welcome May px for sports bike either straight swap or cash my way such as gsxr 750 R1 or open to offers or Dj equipment WHY but no cars
  12. Hoping to get some help if possible. I have heard that the c70 projector headlights will fit strait into my 1998 v70. Is this true? Are they strait swap? Are they worth having over standard ones? Ive been offered them for £80 from a c70 1998 that is being broken. Any advice is much appreciated. Paul.
  13. Dear Volvo Officianades, I need some help ! Being a long admirer of Volvo performance cars I have been dreaming of having one for many years. This week one came up and I need some help as to whether or not I should be buying it or not. It is a 1999 V70R AWD Laser Blue Automatic. It is a Phase 3 and has good ownership (nice guy who has owned if for a while) a full service history and 90k on the clock. I am reading horror stories about the gearbox and AWD system, which is currently giving me a real problem. Had I not known of them I would not have thought twice. My questions are: 1. Are all the gearboxes on the Phase 3 AWD V70R destined to fail ? 2. I have read somewhere that you should flush the gearbox atleast once a year and in some cases twice a year. Is this really necessary to get any life out of it as I have read that some places charge around 200 pounds for it. 3. I have no other concerns should I be checking anything else? 4. Are there a number of routine steps I can take to check the car for possible gearbox issues in order to eliminate the issue of buying a car with potential gearbox issues? Plus any other advice you are willing to give. The cost of the car is 3200 pounds. Help is required asap as I have until Tuesday to decide.
