Hi

Please dont take offence, Just a suggestion, a few years ago whilst I had an Audi 100 pre cd with a Quatro 20valve motor, I used Ford XR3 turbo inter coolers, cheap as chips new, smaller and alot easier to place under a bonnet, I used two of them, a doddle to find space with good cold air access..... that picture don't look like a good solution not matter how cheap it might be, my guess is that you are going to completely wreck any cooling effect prior to that unit. ..... Cheap is not always best.

No offence taken, but what do you mean by 'wreck any cooling effect'

Hi Claymore

I'm assuming it is an inter cooler and in the line AFTER your rather nice main inter cooler before whatever forced induction that you have, it is sitting right ontop of a hot engine, right behind what would also be hot air from the radiator, so your inlet compressessed air is also goig to get a bit hot not good for power, or have I comlpetely mised how your system works.

I know other cars have an intercooler on top of the engine ( Scoobies ), but they generally have a ruddy great air scoop in the bonnet for cold air to flow over the intercooler.

Sorry If I've missed the point.

Have a look at the XR3turbo intercoolers smaller but also thicker and cheap as chips and strangeley for a ford of that eara well made.

beleive me, that piece of crap won't be staying, but it will work as a proof of concept. one of the benefits of having the compound charge will be the ability to run the turbo at much less boost, ( I estimate the turbo should run at about 12psi, and the charger at about 7 psi, 12 + 7 gives me 19psi but in practice it will probably be more like 22psi)

The budget should be virtually nil, as I have all the bits lying around here, but if you included byeing all the bits, it would probably come to less than £500. I'll post up progress picks as i go along, the car goes off the road on the 1'st of december.

Looks interesting - have you started on the mounting of the blower yet?

I'm in the process of fitting an M45 (off a Mini) to my MX5, progress has been slow though, too much on at work & home :(

Got any pics of your last project using the Mini blower?

It doesnt look like a lot has been achived today, but it's amazing how much time making brackets takes. so both intercoolers are now fitted

The FMIC is off a Noble M400 race car which I cut the pipes off and welded some new ones where I needed them.
