hello,
im just wondering what your supposed to do regarding car insurance....
basically some t5's which you'd have thought were defo 2.4's come up as 2.3's
i've experience of the police swapping the engines and using the older version of an engine as thats what they happened to have knocking about etc but is it rule of thumb at all or anything that the police in the case of volvos do sometimes put 2.3's in the 2.4's or do they defo swap like for like or is it just a dvla/insurance company cock up?
two different insurance companies have xyv volvo s60 t5 down as the 2319 and the later 2401 lump depending which of the two i give the reg number to, does this difference between the two mean that it's possibly had an engine swap to the 2.3?

if somebody can answer the points i've made that would be helpful :)
thanks
alex

The warranties are generally Volvo so I would expect a like for like swap.

Not sure why you would be getting two different answers, I would run with whatever it had on the logbook for insurance purposes.

I am sure someone will chime in so you can tell whether the block is 2.3 or 2.4.

The engine code on the block is usually a good giveaway :whistling:

E.g.  - B5234T3 is the 2.3 T5.  The "2" and "3" are the cc of the engine.  "4" is the number of valves per cylinder.  "T3" is the turbo type.

Alex, but you can fit the intake and turbo to the 2.3.

I don't know what other forces are like but, I can,t remember any of  our mechanics getting involved with engine swaps or even rebuilds after the old mk2 Granadas.
I think it is the norm these days for everything to go back to the dealers. I'm almost certain that Volvo gave a 150000 mile warranty and we sold them as that mileage was reached.

I have driven most of the new diesel Patrol cars and I was in the lucky position to test them for South Wales before we decided to buy them. I don't want to upset D5 owners but they are really not up to the job.

oh i agree entirely, they need to stick with the petrol volvos like the new t6 or audis etc, think the smallest the traffic plods should be using is the audi 3.0 v6's or 535d's then turbo petrols

thing is for example, my lpt was 200 bhp, if you try stoppin an evo 300fq your just gonna get pissed on, same in a remapped d5 tbh,
think the problem is that they're trying to cut corners and save fuel costs which isnt a cost effective measure
