is it legal to have blue/grey tint on your wing-mirrors?

can't find any legal bumf on mirrors anywhere. Seen it on a few cars, looks to be quite big in the states, and volvo have a part number for them.  I've been told they're good for reducing glare from people with poorly fitted HIDs or unnecessary high beams.

Me neither.  I would say that as long as it doesn't obscure you view it shouldn't be a problem.

I have no idea, but I will attempt to find out.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair

As I recall my old 240 had quite heavily tinted (green I think) mirrors and I believed them to be oem so I presume they are legal

Yes it's following a theme.
Pink tints, calipers, and Samco hoses.
Forget the Green Hornet here comes the Pink Poof.

i suppose the local plod could lean against it and if they deemed it tinted excessivly possibly impairing your vision then in worst case i think they would actually give you a fixed penalty/notice thingy within 14 days (there are a few smart arses trying to get into traffic-pcso's atm who try and do people for any driving offences possible lol) or theres even PC keane, keane by name keen by nature lmao!

They could try but, after 30 years doing the job, I can say that there is no legislation in relation to mirrors other than the number you must have and their position on the vehicle. Volvo wouldn't list a part number for illegal parts.
