WD40 is unsuitable for locks - It collects dirt/muck, and not only that doesn't last very long..
What you need is:

WD40 is a well known "lock breaker..."
I'd be tempted to blow the lock out with Carb Cleaner (to remove the sticky nasty WD40 residue), then when dry, relub with the correct lock lube
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair
