Give it time Andy...

Hi All,

After having a bit of run-around by Mill for a week, finally got something in response in the post today.

Suffice to say the air turned blue, and were it not for the fact that I work in Settle and couldn't leave until nearly 5 today I would have been straight round and given them a piece of my mind.

In a nutshell they are disputing the milage the car was sold at - say it was 56,476miles. But the details I had from the garage on 8th Aug state 56,541miles..... and the MOT certificate from 12th August (2 days before I collected the car) states 57,963 miles!!!! I'm sure when I picked it up on 14th it was just over the 58,000 miles. Unfortunately checking the paperwork I now see it states 56,476miles. I missed that one in the mist of all the paperwork signed to part ex and buy the car.

Mill state that they paid for the first service, and I paid for the second one. If they bothered to check their records they will see that I actually took out a service plan, where I paid for two services up front (as I knew it was likely I would be a student and so paid for as much up-front as possible whilst still working)!!!!!!!

They say they quoted me 'at cost' to replace the headlights and O/S pop-up headlight washer cap 'thus saving £229'. I actually had a conversation on the telephone where I was quoted £801.36 to replace the lot and when I complained I was told 'I could go to Volvo, they MAY offer a discretionary goodwill discount, this may be 20 or 25%'. Definitely NOT a firm quote (other than top price), and certainly not 'at cost'.

They go on to claim that the split in the drivers seat is 'from wear and tear and not covered by any warranty' - strange that the split has occurred over the last few months and there is absolutely no other marks or signs of wear and tear.

They state that the 2nd row seatbelt 'is not covered under any warranty so would be chargeable'. - This was identified as an issue when the car was just 5 years old, and still within the 12 month 'Volvo Selected Used Car Warranty' that is supposed to give you peace of mind when buying a used Volvo. Starting to look like the Volvo and Mill warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.

They included a booklet for me.... 'Mill Garages Service +, Loyalty discounts for valued customers'. ARE THEY TAKING THE P!@$!!!!! In it are vouches that gives me a free safety inspection between services - hang on, the free safety inspection they have offered anyway just because I have a car from them and they want my business to put right anything that may be faulty? The booklet also has free MOT & 1 year MOT cover with their 3rd year Volvo scheduled service, 25% off 4th year scheduled Volvo service, and 35% off 5th year scheduled Volvo service. Now, why on earth would I want to give them any more of my business and hard earned with the service I have received. Oh, and the car has had it's 5th year scheduled Volvo service - the last service!!!!!!

And here it the best one - the service + booklet also has a £50 M&S voucher for me if I introduce a new customer to Mill who buys a car!!!!!!!! Priceless!!! they really think I'm going to recommend people to them after the way I've been treated, and fobbed off???? I rekon I could find a few people who would give me £50 for enlightening them about Mill and stopping them from buying a car and having to deal with them and get horrendous customer service...

Enough said, though there is more. I was livid when I got home and looked into it, having typed this though I've moved on. Mill Volvo, it's LAUGHABLE!!! What a bunch of.....

Seems to me that especially with the milage issue that Mill are not keeping appropriate records. Not sure that's quite right or legal???

Going back to the finance company now (Black Horse) to enlighten them. Hopefully get them behind me and get something sorted. They have been extremely helpful so far, and at least get the headlights sorted would be something of a result.

Anyone had any issues, or got anything I can use/legal help or dealings with 'cowboy' dealers? I really need to get this sorted!

I'm sorry to hear of these problems - I've said it time and time again but the ONLY warranty which is worth anything at all is the Volvo SELEKT one. In recent months, the requirements to have a car put through the SELEKT scheme have tightened up A LOT meaning dealers need to spend more money putting things right on the car, meaning LESS PROFIT for them.  So they're simply getting around this by offering you a 3rd party warranty which is about as useful as loo roll - that is an indisputable fact!!  The "problem" here is you have a very unsympathetic dealer - if they were to support your case to VCUK then you will get a better "deal" on the repairs, afterall the dealer, is acting as a representative of Volvo, so VCUK will take on board and go with their advice.  Sounds to me like your dealer isn't really bothered, so why would VCUK be?  The same has been experienced by a couple of our forum members, when new parts supplied by a well publicised dealer failed and caused consequential loss and damage.

My main concern was cylinder liners and angle gear which is covered, it looks like it won't be cut or dry if it ever has to be activated!

I'm really sorry to say that I have been advised by Volvo themselves, that those items won't be covered under the warranty you currently have, as I advised you at the time.  Another forum member here was in the same exact situation as yourself, with the same dealer sold warranty and found that none of what actually needed doing (including a serious gearbox issue) was covered so the customer either has to put up with the various issues, or cough up for the repairs out of his own pocket!!

Thoroughly fed up now, feel like I'm wasting my life with this.

Been on to Volvo Car UK, they spoke to the dealership who continued to lie about the milage etc, and emailed me to say they can do no more.

I just got off the phone to VCUK Customer Relations, and quite frankly the lady was quite rude to say the least. I tried to be conciliatory, but she spoke down to me like a naughty schoolboy. Trouble is shouting back and getting angry solves nothing. I tried to be forceful and explain things, but Volvo clearly think their vehicles should have loads of faults, and she even repeated that the car is 6 years old, suggesting that what did I expect after 6 years, like it should be on its way to the scrap yard in the next few months!

Very angry, but it's just getting me down and no-one else seems to give a stuff. The whole tone of the email and conversation with VCUK has left me feeling like I'm a no-body that is insignificant.

Trouble is it'll be difficult to sell the car and get a realistic price with all the faults on it at the moment, it looks shocking. Looks Like I am stuck with the car, but Mill Garages are not gonna get a penny more from me, and at the moment feel disinclined to ever spend any more money with Volvo. If only they weren't as bad as all the others...

Sorry to hear its getting you down!

Why don't you present all your findings and emails to Watchdog and see what they come up with? if anything?
The Next step is to either get the things put right at the likes of MRG or just get ride of it and cut your losses!

I do know what it feels like to pay for something and then get stitched up over it, So I sympathise for you.

Thanks Greg

Sorry to hear that nothing good has come of this. :(  I agree with you as in my personal experience Volvo dealers are rip off w*nkers (excluding FRF and MRG) and Volvo Cars are a complete and utter shower of c*nts.  They don't give a shit about anyone who does not buy a brand new volvo every year.  Cocks. IMHO

NO, it was not "misdirected" at you at all, it was clearly and quite correctly directed at you. It would appear that following advice at the time you purchased this warranty that specific items were NOT covered, you purchased it anyway and then came here claiming a level of cover that Ashok clearly states you do not have, thus potentially misleading others who may just make a purchasing decision with your incorrect statement in mind. I was merely pointing out that despite having recieved advice from Ashok to the contrary you purchased a product that doesn't do what you say you want it to, thus making it very hard to help you!!! Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick here that is correct isn't it??? Cleared that up for you now??? :wanker: :wanker:

Yes, misdirected as I have said, you have the wrong end of the stick, now jump off the bandwagon.

I didn't purchase the warranty per say but got it with the car, and have written confirmation that it covers cylinder bores and AWD components, granted it sounds like a nightmare to claim from other experience but I was sold the car on the premise that these were covered under the warranty.  Also I don't see how making comments on MY warranty can mislead othersPosted Image

I've not been privy to any Volvo UK->Ashok information regarding 3rd party warranties by 'car care plan' so I can't possibly comment on that, I will be asking for further information though that is for sure.

I don't want to argue about semantics to be honest but I did take offense to this:-

This was clearly a cheap-shot in the given context, and only worthy of a tosspot IMO.

Ray Chapmans have dealers in York and Malton, my Dad has used them for 11 years and they're really good. He did look at buying a car from Mill Volvo in Stockton but they're costumer service is sh!te and that was back in 1997!
Even for basic servicing they're pretty cheap and will pick your car up and leave a courstesy car free of charge.
