Figured I'd better check in here.

Volvo Background:

I've been driving Volvos since around 1982, started with a 142, and over the years have had 144's 145's, 164's, a 242, a 245, a 245TI, a couple of 745TI's, a 744T,  a 764, and a 965. I've had my current V70 XC AWD since 2007. I never buy new cars & do all my own work.

Over the past few years I have progressively modified the V70, the list is rather long.  I've had several mishaps & revisions along the way, but it's all good - I enjoy the challenge & making as much as possible myself.

I started with an IPD tune & dual rear exhaust.

Posted Image

Then a conversion to M66 AWD early in '08. Had to make a custom side bracket for the M66 mount

Posted Image

and trim the case webbing to allow for axle removal following Volvo procedure

Posted Image

Posted Image

S60R clutch & flyweel

Posted Image

After that, I went from the stock turbo to a "R" manifold, 16T & modified IPD tune. Around this time I built a '98 2.3L HPT motor with h-beams, new Mahle OS2 pistons & all the attendant rebuild parts.

Posted Image

Pretty soon that got old, so I went to a 19T, angle flange housing, "custom" downpipe into stock midpipe & a WothRLine tune.

FMIC came into the mix at some point, and I tried a couple of sizes & pipe revisions.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Air inlet piping has been revised numerous times, currently 3" from filter to compressor, using Audi A8 MAF & housing (3" ID). Greddy Type R Recirc.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Breather system has also gone through many revisions. Currently vent to atmosphere through additional cans, using newer model breather box on motor, cam housing also vented. Zero oil loss & zero CC pressure when running high rpms/boost levels.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then went to Mitsubishi Hybrid 20g (TD05H 10cm2 Hotside, TD06H Compressor), revised 3" DP & center section, revised WothRLine tune.

Posted Image

Then last year went to Garrett 60-1 wheel & compressor, designed for Mitsubishi CHRA & impeller. Modified DP again, with divorced WG dump feeding back into DP.

Over the years I've tried a variety of manual boost controllers, alternate TCV's &

Posted Image

have used an Apexi AVC-R for some time now. Very reliable & solid boost control.

Posted Image

This spring, I added a '04 Dual VVT ported head & Enem Y21 cams & COP (TT).

Posted Image

This summer, I redid over axle & rear exhaust with dual 3" Magnaflows for improved flow.

Posted Image

Then I added an LGspeed header, redid the DP again

& soon after added my custom log intake manifold

Posted Image

Posted Image

(required modding the ancillary brackets for the later PS pump & tensioner routing).

Posted Image

Posted Image

That's pretty much where I'm at now.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Brakes went from stock to 302, then standard Porsche BBK up front. Rears went from stock to R vented discs & calipers, to Porsche w/ custom brackets & S60R rotors.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Suspension went from stock, to R springs, to TME spring set. OMP strut brace.

Posted Image

Wheels went from stock 15's to 16", to 17" pegs, to 18" pegs, to 18" Motegi MR116

Interior has R door panels, R dash w/center speaker, R stereo head unit. R gauges, 3pod on pillar w/ AEM wideband, dual boost gauge(IBP/EBP)& EGT

Posted Image

Some cosmetic mods - body color side trim, body color bumpers, modified front bumper& support  w/ larger center inlet this summer. Rear spoiler, window tint all round, tinted tails, ABM headlights, eyebrows.

Posted Image

Posted Image

True short shifter, fabricated using parts from spaceball shifter & '00 shifter. I Leather trimmed the knob. Shifter boot is from a UK vendor on eBay

Posted Image

Posted Image

This is my daily driver, so no gutting or weight loss program - I have all the factory options, plus heated rear seats, cargo nets, cargo cover, subwoofers & amp in cargo panel, etc. Dynamat Extreme entire cargo & rear tub. It's HEAVY Posted Image

Petty much I've added about 50WHP a year to it's output. I'll (probably) stop when I get it at 400WHP AWD.

Next up is the Kalmar Union SM replacement flywheel & Spec SO603F+ clutch; the S60R clutch is now slipping on hard 1-2 shifts.

...and a custom built 3" core radiator coming this week

That's it.

Always kept an eye on your thread on VS, it's had it's fare share of problems, but that goes with any build.

Fantastic work, especially like the inlet manifold that you made.

Impressive stuff, well done on overcoming all the problems inherent with this type of build.

That kind of build makes me feel both very poor and very technically inadequate.

I love it

Do you think the ceramic paint on your DP retains any heat or is it purely cosmetic?

No ceramic - it's heat paint & heat wrap, which works very well. I added the heat shield over the header 'cos these were the temps after a short run, left the hood open for a couple of minutes & checked with an infrared gun:

Collector: 800ºF
Runners: 625/650ºF
Head: 195ºF
IC hotside: 183ºF
Intake: 125ºF
MAF housing: 148ºF
Ambient Air temp @ intake duct 95ºF

Collector: 426 oC
Runners: 329/343ºC
Head: 90ºC
IC hotside: 84ºC
Intake: 52ºC
MAF housing: 64ºC
Ambient Air temp @ intake duct 35ºC

Rough Conversions.
