Hello to all. Just to say hi, and happy new year I guess. I'm looking into buying a T5 or D5 after several years of thinking about it. I'm considering ex-police ones so if anyone has any pointers to guides to ex-police V70's, please point me in the right direction. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, I'm a new member too.
Police vehicles will be well maintained, but get hammered a lot of the time. I kow a couple of traffic cops and they drive the cars very hard.
Keep an eye open tho, plenty of private ones up for sale too

Just the price really. I'm finding it difficult to find V70 T5 SE's for my price range/mileage though. Is there a thread on here that goes into what sort of things go when you get to certain mileages? I've got to convince the Mrs that buying a car with more than 80k is a good idea. I need help! I'd like a Geartronic as well as I'm getting lazy these days (28 years old btw!).

You could be looking at twice that mileage. Yes they are well maintained and not all are abused by the drivers. I was crewed on my own car and, yes, I drove it hard when it was needed but I looked after it as if it was my own.
In my experience, in our force anyway, they tended to neglect the auto boxes in that they were advised to carry out regular fluid changes but instead just let Volvo replace the 'boxes, when knackered, under warranty.
Anyway, welcome and good luck with the search. I would buy an ex police car myself especially if I knew the history.

Welcome along to T5D5.
There have been quite a few threads on the above. Have a search on the forum for previous threads.
Each has its own merits and each are good at what they do. IMHO it comes down to money, T5's cost more to run, apparently D5's cost more to maintain/service but cost about 50% less to fill. T5's are far more suitable for modding, D5's are not. You can get a VERY cheap ex-plod T5 if you don't mind the cosmetic issues and poverty spec. Just my 2P's worth.
