Hi all... Was drving my beloved new s60 t5 when in second coming out of a corner i give.it some, then something weird happens.... I take my foot off to slow down.seemingly at the same time the traction control kicks in and the car lurches forward violently... Queue a clicking knocky noise increasing with revs and always on... Mechanic looking but your thouggts are welcome...

Anyway, i was thinking worse case i drop another engine in... Are the s70/original v70 t5 engines a straight swap for the early s60 t5, especially with my mods..

On my phone so apologies. Im devastated, no holiday for me this year :(

Thanks
James

Just get a S60/V70 engine of same ilke and drop it in if the big ends rogered, probably the cheapest option.

Sounds like bottom end knock or kinked rod.

I recall Tim mentioning the shells are accesible via the sump, the other day - If i'm remembering correctly and that's the case, that's the route I'd choose rather than engine swapping.

Thats true, if it is the shells they can be done by dropping the sump off.

Just a quickie: will the B5234T3 engines from the P1 cars be a like for like swap or will I need to source one from a P2 car due to the exhaust VVT?

AFAIK as you've suggested, the P2 VVT engine will be needed as the ecu on your car is ME7, also unsure if the mounts would be the same. If the mounts are the same, maybe a late P1 ME7 equipped VVT would do the job

Might be worth getting it apart and seeing what's wrong first. Matched bearing shells and possibly a crank regrind may well be cheaper than an engine you have no idea about. Especially if you can do that engine and box in the car with the head still on. No idea if thats the case though.

If the car was driven at all after the noise or has had no oil pressure issues in the past and not just been ran low on oil then chances are the crank and conrod will be damaged. The sump can be removed to check all big end bearings but once they spin the conrod is damaged.

Is there any regrind tolerance on them tim? Your main issue Jim is finding out why it did it in the first place.

Why it did it is weird... Coming out of a cirner the traction control seemed to pull back at the same time i did, resulting in engine lurching the car forward...

As for driving it, literally half a mile and that was it....

The cranks can be reground but it's easier and cheaper to just get another. It's very rare for them to go unless they have ran low on oil or recently had new parts.

Hmm, the oil was topped up... You think the hard right hand corner could have briefly starved the engine of oil?
