Well, i decided to change my oil on saturday, despite only doing the last change less then 1000miles ago..... i wasnt happy with the shell oil i used....

anywho, the oil was clean but like glitter... there was alot of metal swarf in there.... when i say swarf, i mean very very tiny specks of metal...... I was and am utterly gutted when i saw it....

Im not 100% whats caused it....

Does this mean another engine? or am i better to strip it and see if its worth rebuilding? as im gatthering bits to do my rebuild and upgrade..

im worried that buying another engine and finding thats worse then this one....

If the oil worries you why not send it off to be tested?

Chances are it will be bearing shells.

Because its a ball ache to go through the process.....

I changed the oil when i did the sump seals.... I used Shell helix 10/40 and after doing about 600 miles or so, it became very thin and was just dripping off the dip stick, compared to other 10/40's i have used in that past....

I changed:
Sump to block o rings (two of)
Oil filter to oil cooler o rings (two of)
Oil pick up pipe o ring
Oil dipstick tube oil ring
Oil cooler seals (two of)

also,
Sparkplug seals (five of)
Cam seals (three of)
cam end cap

All parts from dealers
I used Volvo sealent and roller too

Whats the part number for the oil pick up pipe o ring? i'll double check my paper work.... Im sure i did change it.

if you didnt put 2 Orings on the pick up pipe then you will more than likely have low oil pressure. never remover the pickup pipe if you dont have to!

your big end shells will be shot mate wont be long before it starts knocking

If you did replace the PIck up pipe Oring DO NOT run the engine as if you damage the crank or a rod its a massive ball ache!

i may have some good shells some where i could send you i need to have a look for them and order yourself 2 new orings and should be able to get her going again with very little outlay

its as the oil warms the Oring softens and allows the pump to suck air i beleive thats the case anyway

Tim can explain it better than i can

I'll have a look for some shells when i get chance i dont expect you to pay for them just cover the postage

obviously the oil pressure drops as the oil warms up but did you continue to monitor it once the car was warm?

Your spot on there Shem... i notice the oil pressure drop when it warmed up.......

Right according to my paper work, i have changed:

30637339 - Oil cooler seals x2
8642560 - Sump O ring
8642559 - Sump O ring
30637867 - Oil pick up tube O ring
1397525 - Sparkplug seal x 5
977751 - Sump plug seal
31251439 - Turbo return pipe O ring x 2
30637865 - Oil dipstick tube O ring

So according to that, i did the stupid thing and changed just the one.....

I'll get another 2 ordered.... great.....

Thanks Shem for helping me pin point it out.... your a Dude

Yes Blackbeast and other have had the same problem with the pick-up rings, another Volvo triumph. Tim found fitting two rings forced it to seal properly.
