Hi all,

just thought i hadn't posted on here about the latest mods poor BT has had to endure. For several years she had quite an oil leak & was told my a couple of independants that they thought it was coming the turbo, so BT had her own "self cleaning oil system" for quite a while whilst i just topped up the oil instead of being bothered to sort the turbo out. Luckily Russ of RT mechanics posted up an advert offering his un-used 19t for sale, the credit car came out & was promptly on my door step. HLM done me a very good price on a Ferrita 3" downpipe to match it but unfortunatly i couldn't just stop there. While the turbo was being changed i thought it would be such a shame not to change the exhaust manifold at the same time, Simon (Rufe) at FRF sorted me out a very good price for that, but that still wasn't enough. Knowing the best exhaust for a turbo is not having one i found the perfect thing on ebay, a QTP exhaust cut-off, a motor operated butterfly valve which basically bypasses the rest of the exhaust. This had to be imported from America, i did the cutting of the downpipe myself but Powerflow kindly welded it all together for me (even tho they didn't know what the hell it was lol). I managed to convince my local Volvo dealer that all the parts would fit easily & they undertook the job of fitting it, which they did at a very good price & even cleaned her for me (poor blkoes). Finally on my quest to not have a remap i brought an Apexi Neo fuel computer, this nice little electric box manipulates the MAF signal to the ecu fooling it into add/reducing fuel, just need an AFR now so i can set it up correctly

Posted Image
all nice & shiny, just waiting to bbe fitted

Posted Image
while BT was up on the ramps at Powerflow having her exhaust finished off i thought i'd take a pic from underneath. We can see the motorized butterfly valve & all the oil under there lol

Posted Image
with the valve hanging slightly lower than planned ground clearance has been reduced a bit, but still hasn't any trouble with speed bumps or curbs

Posted Image
with both the Apexi AVC-R & the Apexi Neo now fiitted there is no-end of stuff i can monitor

so how does it drive, well because i haven't got an AFR so can't use the Neo i decided to turn the AVC-R off & run boost at the actuator setting which turned out to be 0.65-0.70 bar, & she already feels ALOT faster. Boost isn't so aggresive (so no wheelspin) then it just keeps adding more & more power :)

thanks for looking Duane

Nice work Duane, make sure you get it all sorted before letting her rip,
You should've asked i have one of those ex manifolds on my R engine outside, too late now,

Powerflow needs to sort out those welds, my nipper could do better with his eyes shut,

i haven't wired the exhaust cut-off up yet, but it will be done before Avon :)

the Neo adjusts the signal voltage from the MAF sensor to the ecu, if you need more fuel for example you programme the Neo to add 20% more voltage than the true voltage signal from the MAF, so the ecu thinks more air is going in than there actually is & increases the injector rate to add more fuel B)

cheers mate, i've given it a few blasts already & all seems to be well. But i'm getting her dyno'd soon & can check everything then

your not the first to point out the naff welding, but its not blowing & the valve hasn't fallen off et so i'm happy lol. Its an S60R manifold i've got, is it the same as your one?

quite possibly mate lol. I had to pick her up from Volvo with just the downpipe & that was loud enough, with the valve open it should be even louder please it'll bypass the cat as well
