V50 d5 cutting out/hesitant.

10 posts in this topic

Hi forgive me if this has been mentioned before i have seen a few posts regarding this issue but nothing seems to be specific to how mine is behaving. So here goes i hope you can help me...

I bought the 2008 v50 d5 last month with 104k miles. Drove it from Birmingham to Chester no problems at all. However the car lacked power and this was down to the swirl flaps not opening correctly( it didnt pin you down as such as a d5 should!). Flaps were changed. All was good for a while. Then it cut out on me for the first time. I open ed the bonnet and could hear an injector hissing. Rang our mechanic and he said he hadnt renewed the seals on them just used the old ones (daft i know). I managed to get it started again and off i went. It has done this twice since and its frustrating me. Upon restarting and after some steady revs it hesitates and conks out again. The only trend i have noticed is when i stick the a/c or heated seats on and cd then it hesitates after a short while. The only other problem i can think is the injectors losing pressure because of the knackered seals?

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Get it to someone who knows volvos. Sorry, im no mechanic but if you are talking about the common rail, high pressure injectors the same as in the V70 D5, they have a single use crush fit seat on the injector pipes which if removed dont like to be re fitted.  They can be refitted but are not supposed to be due to them deforming to shape on initial use. Mine leaked very badly when i tried to reuse them. Sadly Volvo want a lot of cash for new injector pipes.

Awesome. He is fitting the new seals tomorrow. If that doesnt work then he knows a guy who has special volvo diagnostics so il root for him. Just baffles me why he hadnt renewed them and this guy works on all our works trucks! Nothing coming up on my Bluetooth dongle either

Update. Seals have been replaced however it still coughs then cuts out. He has taken the ecu out now and is sending it off for testing. Are the d5 ecu's prone to problems?? My dads has never had a problem at all

What prompted removal of the ecu

Has it had a recent service including fuel filter?

Have you had a proper Volvo code reader on it to get non generic codes to help diagnose the problems?

He just took the thing out. He said because there was corrosion on the heat sink side that there maybe water inside the boards? I thought it was a drastic move from putting the new seals on.

I have spoken to the previous owner he said he had it serviced every october. He said the fuel filter had been replaced last year.

Cant remember the codes now il try and ask him for the screenshot however i remember there being 3 codes. 2 of them were for injectors 3 and 5 i think. Give me a moment and i shall ask him for it.

Sadly the forum is fickle regarding uploads of pictures.  Put them onto a photo sharing site like photobucket or similar and post the link.

Did the injector codes go away after the injector seals were replaced?

To be honest i cant quite remember he speaks 100 miles an hour too so it makes it hard . I asked him if the seals would have any effect on the matter and he seems to think not?

Here are the codes and descriptions...
2350-injection valve of cylinder 5/faulty signal
2430-fuel system/faulty signal
2320-injection valve of cylinder 2/faulty signal.
