That figures - power wise, I see the key elements being...'built' motor, GT30(71R, perhaps?) on a good manifold, a good tune (good to see a standalone system on a T5...not that it really matters, but it's relatively unusual)...and a little more boost than the gaggle of 400-450bhp cars I know of.

A good cylinder head makes such a difference. Ryan's 740 is essentially a very similar concept (besides the tubular manifold), but the (standard 8v) head flow severely blunts volumetric efficiency to the point where for essentially a similar spec, we're only getting somewhere in the order of 350bhp. A 16v conversion is so very tempting...

Anyone know where it's redlined? I'm guessing it's another 8k+ motor.

cheers

James

The reason being, is that Russell Thompson of RT MECHANICS - Volvo Specialists is a dishonest, and disreputable trader (Who is incapable of fitting oil cooler pipes correctly) who not only charges people the earth, but also when it goes wrong, refuses to put the job right, and makes owners suffer for over 8 months whilst they take him to court (for over £5000) As part of the settlement, he then insists on confidentiality clauses to try and hide his dishonesty, shoddy behaviour and thoroughly poor work.

Hi James thanks for you comment's what i wanted to do with the project was use the best of everything,i looked at which stand alone ecu i wanted to use it was between motec and autronic, in the end i went for the autronic as it has lots of standard features which are all extras in the motec

The head and a proper manifold are the main key bits as you rightly say to get the power so easy,i am currenty having cams made from steel billets with a fresh profile selection ;) Which i hope will improve things even more the revs are set at 7k no more is needed yet :o

If you wound it out to 8000-8500 with those new (I'm guessing hotter?) cams, I think you could add 100-150 BHP to the total. I'm impressed that that's 'only' at 7k!

cheers

So when are we going to see this custom inlet manifold? i.e an ME7 manifold with the flanges cut off and pre me7 flanges welded on?

Hi James

I am hoping i have gone the right way with the new profiles there is much incorrect info on the net from people that are good at guessing what is good and no nothing  its a big learning curve for me but i love every minute of it :pmsl:

Once i am happy with the cams the next step is race fuel :pmsl:

Hi Russ,

Oooh! More timing, or more boost...or both? :pmsl: I've been very surprised by Ryan's 8v (not a chamber known for its ping suppression)...we're able to run ~25 degrees of total timing (8 static plus 17 or so dynamic in the map) at 2 Bar of boost...on 95 octane :pmsl:  :)  ;) Admittedly, better fuel and more timing would probably make noticably more power, but he doesn't like the cost of V-Power

I did find the specs once for that 1000bhp T5 motor...but I can't find them now. It uses a D5 block (no more cracked liners!), a turbo that looks like it came from a tank, 10,000rpm and 2.5 Bar of boost. I don't remember seeing any pics of the intake and exhaust manifolds, but it didn't have to fit into an 850's engine bay, so I imagine they did whatever they felt like.

cheers

James

Hi James

I have a contact with an 850 with 842 bhp :0 and uses a similair spec to the above a pure 1/4 mile car with a space frame chassis with an 850 body i will post some pics :pmsl:

It's always interesting to see what others have done with the T5 engine with real genuine power but they are all seem to out of the uk :pmsl:
