Following on from the Metro Turbo (sorry Tim ) and to save BB's intercooler thread from going even further of topic  here's another turbo story from the archives
In 1962 the first mass produced turbocharged engine car was released with an induction and exhaust layout which was fairly sophisticated at that time with fluid injection using a single barrel Rochester side-draft carburettor. The turbo was a Garrett TO-3 with an integral wastegate, another first. To cut lag a 10:1 compression ratio was used so boost was limited to 5 psi.
The engine was an aluminium 215 CI (3523cc) V8 giving 215 BHP @ 4800 and 300 lb/ft @ 3200 with a 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and a 100 mph plus top speed with the manual transmission, although the turbo would not boost if the distilled water/methanol fluid injection reservoir was empty.
