i have to say, that results sheet atm looks a bit more like a performance tractor racing results sheet- with all those diesels ( and im not slagging diesels off calling them tractors-on omega forums the 2.5td bmw powered omegas were known as tractors lol)

Haven't had a chance yet for a set of proper tests but on the way home today I dropped in at a friends private track and did one (just one!) 60-100 in 4th. And the time was...

10 seconds exactly. I've absolutely no doubt I could do it quicker, and even quicker still in 3rd.

Couldnt tell you what gears it was in as my 855 T5 is Auto but it done 60 - 100 in just under 10 secs, thats in sports mode and started accelerating at 55mph.

Just the HLM 304 and Pipercross panel filter.

My mate video'd it on his i phone but it wont connect to my LG to blue tooth it over :(

Is that a good time, i dont know, it feels bloody quick :D

Just remembered, it doesnt go into Top gear until 110 ish, so i assume it was 2nd and 3rd gears as it changed up about 80.

Not really that impressive bearing in mind my auto (standard map, JR panel air filter is the only engine mod) did 60-100 in approx 10 secs in economy mode and starting at a cruising 60. That was through 3rd gear as well, it didn't bother changing down to 2nd.

If I get chance I will try mine again in sport mode to see if it does it any quicker.

using sport mode as daft as it sounds might actually increase the time (if it drops down theres a pause doing that, pausing to change up again and then the fact that if it's like my auto omega i had it took longer in sport than it did nailin it down to the kickdown button without sport lol)

That's what I was thinking. My car rarely gets put into sport mode as I mainly use it on motorways and when it holds 3rd gear at 70ish over the typical 10 mile trip it really drinks the fuel! TBH its quick enough, and nicer to drive, in economy mode.

just my opinion but if you just want to get the quickest 60-100 then do what you're doing. if you want to be able to compare your car to others then the only true way of doing it would be to start from 30-40 and then just plant it going through the gears.

magazines will do a 0-150 or whatever and just take the 0-60 and 0-100 out of it and subtract from those to get the 60-100. most cars are geared to be able to do over 60 in second to shorten their 0-60 but that would then affect the 60-100.

fwiw i have to do two bloody changes  2nd to 3rd at about 62 and then 3rd to 4th at about 90-95 (i have a 10v gearbox. not by choice, just happened that way when i broke my original).

edit. imo half the fun for me at least is knowing my my 60-100 and then looking at the back of magazines to compare with other quickish cars.

I noticed that today, no matter how long I held it on the limiter it would not get to 63 in second :o

60-100 on the speedo in 3rd 6.3secs (started at 55mph)

60-100 in 4th 8.1 secs (started at 55)

80-120 in 4th 9.6 secs (started at 75)

Wet road, flat, no wind, mobile phone, 2 runs each and no variation in timings oddly enough.

that is bloody quick jardon, nice one! Fwiw evo have the new rs4 at 6.4 seconds. An e39 M5 does it in 6.6 seconds. An e46 M3 will do it in 7.2, csl at 6.7. They would all involve a gearchange at just over 60 though as they'd be going through the gears. Told you it'd be fun!

Cheers Irf,

it's not bad is it - those M3/RS4 times would be significantly quicker without a gearchange but still I'm pretty happy. To me it doesn't feel quick anymore though - the speedo and the brakes are what tell me it's fast these days.

For those of you running 850's and P1 auto's it may interest you to know that the box ECU instructs the engine ECU to back off the timing advance just before/during gear changes which cuts torque and hence slows forward motion in economy mode......it also dumps more heat into the cooling system (not good if remapped) instead of into the combustion process which of course would otherwise increase your piston speed and performance (in sport mode) instead of heat transfer through the liners.......and the grief that can bring.........

In sport mode it doesn't................hence the title sport mode.......

60-100 in 8 odd secs checked using an AP22 a few years ago now, which included a lift before the ton mark........I never use economy mode as to be honest it kills the car dead IMHO :)

Very interesting, thanks for posting that.

I've read various peoples ideas on the difference between S and E mode, but I've never read that before.

Trouble is yosser the later boxes actually learn your driving patten so mess them up with different drivers and they won't play ball, but do a few cycles of what you want performance wise and the ECU'S will respond and learn............ :)

Can Bus is very clever but needs time to adapt...... ;) IMHO.

I know what you mean...

A while back I had a C180 with a 'learning' auto box. There was a reset procedure that involved turns of the key and pressing this and that, and it was always worth a reset if my dear wife had been driving it about - our driving 'styles' differ somewhat ;)

I think I'm ok with the old fashioned box in the V70 :)

Ah the joys of an explod that has presumably been floored many times...i thought it responded to that kind of driving rather nicely.

I'm gonna try and get some figures at some point soon, bit busy at the moment with exams but i'll drag my housemate out with a stopwatch to a private track somewhere and go and do some statistical data analysis ;)
