DON'T buy them from eBay, 99% of them are fake ones..  such as only 8gb but sold as 32.. or dog slow, or just crap, lasting a few weeks...

I'm of the impression that the CEM water ingress issue affects only facelifted models (as they moved the CEM)

It's a shunt not a resistor really.

With the heat generated to scorch, that's usually indicative of purely a high resistance. They look REAL manky, and make sure you cut back the cables till you've removed the crispy insulation, and also any corroded cable.

And yep, sounds just like water ingress leading to corrosion.

I'm heavy on shoes too, so may have to look into it.
