I don't know if this site is authoritive http://www.newmot.co.uk/ but I don't like the look of:
"5) Management electronic control unit (ECU) modification.
It's not fuly understood how ECU systems will be checked as yet, but a car will in theory fail the MOT if it is found that it's ECU unit has been illegally modified or 'chipped'."
I've also seen mention of other items (on other sites) to be checked that could make the owing of a road legal track car a little difficult.

Changing V70 dipped bulbs
01 December 2011 - 17:22
On day 2 of my ownership, one of the dipped headlamps bulbs (H7) blew.
So I set about replacing it.
Removing the whole headlamp assembly from the car was very easy,
as was removing the rear cover ......
..... but as to getting the halogen bulb out -
I didn't want to force anything so I took the whole assembly to a VERY
competent local garage. They, after some head scratching removed it with the aid of a pair of curved long-nosed pliers.
When I later went in to what appears to be the most respected Volvo dealership
mentioned on this forum, I asked them what I, and my garage were doing wrong;
the answer was that changing the bulbs was infact a PITA!
Not good design, especially as day running lamps don't last that long.

V70 Wiper arms
01 December 2011 - 17:05
When I wash a car, I swing the wiper arms up away from the front screen.
But on my 09 V70 D5, the rear edge of the bonnet prevents the driver's side arm from
moving enough to lock it in the away from screen position.
The arm is positioned correctly (on splines?), as the sweep of the blade (a massive 26")
is perfect.
Have others found this?

Hello all
After 9 previous Volvo estates over a period of 37 years, I've got my first Diesel!
It's an 09 185 auto and I can't wait for to be able to re-map it once it's out of warranty.
I have done a lot of track days over the last 9 years but NEVER in a Volvo.
