That according to Volvo diagrams is the low beam shunt, there is a fuel pump relay toward the top end CMI 12.

You're right, so I'm not entirely sure what caused the car to breakdown now.....

The heat damage obviously needed addressed, but I don't know whether it was related or not. As you say, there is a fuel pump relay nearby-ish so it may be related.

I'll have to pop the cem out again for a closer inspection just to be sure.

Hi Nick, isnt the shunt in your picture for the headlights?

Or  does same shunt run other things too?

I have absolutely no idea!

There were 3 of these in total, you can see the other 2 in the first picture.

The others were undamaged.

It's a shunt not a resistor really.

With the heat generated to scorch, that's usually indicative of purely a high resistance. They look REAL manky, and make sure you cut back the cables till you've removed the crispy insulation, and also any corroded cable.

And yep, sounds just like water ingress leading to corrosion.

I cut back as far as I could whilst still allowing enough slack to work with, I *think* it'll be ok but if it isn't I'll have to patch in replacement sections. My time/light was limited last night, so I will revisit this soon to inspect the other connectors as well.

Good old CEM water ingress strikes again. There's a new modified part available which will prevent it. It's a rubber grommit thingy underneath the plastic under the windscreen. There's a thread on it somewhere. . It's a must do if your car falls in the affected chassis numbers as it's likely to do anything if it gets wet.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Is that what Dream3r had with his R?

Isn't this from the LOTUS era? - i.e. Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious

We live short lives, and sometimes you should just do things because you want to.

Just remember that supercars (which the Esprit probably is, just) come with supercar running costs - no matter how cheap they are to buy.
